The Syllabus for CISF Assistant Commandants Examination, 2025, held by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), includes two written papers. The details of which are as follows:
Written Examination Papers
Paper I: General Ability, Intelligence, and Professional Skill
- Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)
- Total Marks: 300
- Duration: 2.5 hours
- Number of Questions: 150
- Language: Questions will be in both English and Hindi.
- Sections:
- Part A: General Ability and Intelligence (150 marks, 75 questions)
- Part B: Professional Skill (150 marks, 75 questions)
Paper II: Essay, Precis Writing, and Comprehension
- Type: Descriptive
- Total Marks: 100
- Duration: 2 hours
- Language:
- Essay: Can be written in English or Hindi.
- Precis Writing and Comprehension: English only.
Important Notes for Candidates
- In Paper II, answers must be written only in the allowed medium. The written language should not be wrong as no marks will be given for answers written in the wrong language.
- Candidates must write their choice of language for the essay on the attendance list and answer book.
- Each paper will have minimum marks for qualifications as decided by the UPSC.
- Candidates qualifying in the written exam which will be held on 9 March 2025, will proceed to the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Medical Examination.
- Those clearing the PET and Medical Exam will have to face the Interview.
- A final merit list will be prepared based on all the stages and shared with CISF for further processing.
Detailed Syllabus
Paper I: General Ability, Intelligence, and Professional Skill
Part A: General Ability and Intelligence
The questions will test logical reasoning, awareness, and general knowledge across the following areas:
- General Mental Ability:
- Logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, numerical ability, and data interpretation.
- General Science:
- Awareness of scientific phenomena, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science.
- Current Events:
- National and international events in culture, arts, sports, governance, business, and global issues.
- General Awareness:
- Basic knowledge of Indian history, geography, polity, economy, and world geography.
Part B: Professional Skill
This section will assess knowledge specific to CISF’s operational and administrative needs.
- CISF-Related Professional Skills:
- Industrial security, safety, firefighting, disaster management, aviation security, crime prevention, and intelligence.
- Security of installations like metro rail, government buildings, ports, and nuclear plants.
- Use of technology in security (detection tools, alarms, fire safety, bomb detection).
- VIP security, internal security, election duties, and drone technology in security.
- Security consultancy.
- Law and Legal Knowledge:
Covers key laws and sections related to CISF operations:- Criminal Laws:
- Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (e.g., Arrest, Search, Unlawful Assembly).
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (e.g., Public tranquility, Organized crime, Theft, Trespass).
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (Evidence Act sections).

- UAPA 1967, Prevention of Corruption Act, IT Act 2000, POCSO Act, etc.

Paper II: Essay, Precis Writing, and Comprehension
This paper evaluates a candidate’s ability to:
- Idea expressed in essay should be clear and to the point.
- Summarize a passage in concise and error free language (Precis Writing).
- Understand and analyze the passages and answer the questions based on them Comprehension).
The Essay can be written in English or Hindi, but Precis and Comprehension have to be written in English only.
